What this service is

About trains assistance

Rail booking has a peculiar problem: the journey itself is the easiest part of travel, and the ticketing is one of the hardest. Different national operators, different advance-purchase windows, passes that need a separate seat reservation on exactly the trains you wanted, and cross-border services sold through whichever country you happen to be looking from.

We help travellers work out which ticket type actually applies to the journey they are making, whether a pass is worth it against point-to-point fares, and which reservations must be locked in early because the train fills.

GoTripWay is an independent travel service provider. We are not a railway operator. Tickets and passes are issued by the relevant rail operator or authorised distributor, under their conditions of carriage.

Point-to-point tickets

Single-journey rail tickets across domestic and cross-border routes, including the advance fares that are far cheaper but tied to a specific departure.

Rail passes, honestly assessed

A pass is excellent value on some itineraries and poor value on others. We price both ways and tell you which one wins for your actual route, even when the answer is "skip the pass".

Seat and berth reservations

High-speed and overnight services usually require a compulsory reservation on top of a pass. We identify which of your trains need one and secure them before they sell out.

Scenic and overnight routings

Where a slower line is the better journey, we say so — mountain routes, coastal lines, and sleeper services where a night on board replaces a night in a hotel.

Benefits

What you get out of using us for this

Pass versus tickets, priced both ways

You see the actual numbers for your route before deciding, rather than guessing from a marketing page.

Reservations handled early

Compulsory reservations on popular high-speed and sleeper services are booked as soon as the window opens.

Cross-border complexity absorbed

One journey, several operators, several ticketing systems — we assemble it into a single clear itinerary.

Station-level detail

Which station, which terminus, how long the transfer across a city really takes. The detail that ruins connections when it is missed.

How it works

Nothing is reserved and nothing is charged until you say so.

    We map the options

Direct against connecting services, advance fares against flexible ones, pass against point-to-point.

  3. 03

    Reservations secured

We confirm which trains need a compulsory reservation and book those first, since they are the ones that sell out.

  4. 04

    Itinerary delivered

A single document with every leg, platform-side notes, transfer times and the conditions attached to each ticket.

Travel information

Things worth knowing before you book

Practical detail, not filler. Every item here is something that has cost a traveller money or a departure.

Advance fares are cheap because they are fixed

The saving is real and so is the restriction. If your date might move, pay for the flexible fare and stop worrying about it.

A pass is rarely a ticket to board

On most high-speed and overnight services you still need a paid seat reservation. Budget for it and book it early.

Check which station

Large cities have several termini that are not walking distance apart. Confirm the exact station on both ends before you plan the connection.

Overnight trains save a hotel night

On the right route a sleeper is competitive with a flight once you count the hotel you did not need and the city-centre arrival.
